John Byrne

Born in Lima, Peru, he holds dual Chilean/British nationality. He was educated at The Grange School and the Military Academy in Santiago, Chile. He graduated in 1977 from the Universidad Católica de Valparaiso with a degree in Business Administration and Certified Public Accountant. In 2005, he received his postgraduate MBL degree from Universidad Adolfo Ibañez.

He began his professional career in 1978 in Valparaiso with a ship &stevedoring agency and in 1981 started a career in banking. For twelve years he worked for the Bank of America N.T. in Santiago rising from account executive, Corporate Finance Manager, Manager of Capital Markets to finally being appointed Chile Branch Manager in 1991.

In 1994, he was appointed Senior Country Officer for The Chase Manhattan Bank N.A., Santiago and in 1995 joined the Banco Sud Americano, an important local retail institution, presently Scotiabank, as Executive Vice President International & Treasury Division.

In 1997 his entrepreneurial vocation led him to form a recruitment, selection and search company oriented towards middle management.  Since June 2000, John Byrne leads Boyden executive search activities in Chile. Byrne is the Head of three offices highly focused on mining located in Iquique, Antofagasta and Santiago.

During his banking years, Byrne was directly involved in the financing of many of the world class mining operations in Chile. He has in depth knowledge of the industry and its suppliers. He understands the people issues and the exiting war for talent that exists in this industry.
